What's Your Ocean Spirit Animal?

There's always one or two animals that we feel connected to in a special way. Growing up, I always felt drawn to the excitement of dolphins, while more recently, I've become slightly obsessed the artistic and colourful nudibranchs. Whether you resonate with a chilled manta ray or a cheeky clownfish, our spirit animals give us a unique insight into our personalities, our strengths and our weaknesses. So for a bit of fun, here are a few of the main characters of the sea, some of whom you may (or may not) feel connected to.

Dolphin

If you’re chatty, sociable and you love a good laugh, you might resonate with the energy of a dolphin. If so, you're likely smiley kind, and often the most energetic one in the group. Your curious nature and good sense of humour means that you are known for your quick wit and clever jokes. You believe that life should be lived fearlessly and without regrets. You're also a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and if anybody wants to do something crazy, you'll be the first fish to sign up!

Manta Ray

If you enjoy yoga, facials or a day at the spa, a manta ray might just be your spirit animal. Your morning meditation keeps you grounded, and you employ small, daily habits to keep your space to clean and tidy (and maximise the feng shui). You love to have many small meals a day, and you are quite picky with your foods, always paying close attention to eating a clean and healthy diet. Because of your strong will and nurturing nature, people often look up to you as their leader or role model.

Turtle

If you like to take things slow, and people sometimes tell you you have an old soul, you might feel a kinship with the wise old turtle. Turtles are well travelled and live a rather migratory life, usually following the sun and the warm weather. While you love to travel, you also love to come home and will likely settle and have kids in the same place where you were born. Your friends often look to you as a safe place for love and support, but you know very well how to maintain your own personal boundaries too. When life gets tough and things knock you down, you're not afraid to pick yourself back up again and just keep swimming.

Humpback whale

If you're usually quite a chilled out kind of person, perhaps you resonate with a humpback whale, the gentle giants of the sea. If this is you, you're likely a very caring and sensitive person, who loves to relax but can also jump around with the occasional burst of energy.

Knowing you, you probably also have a strong sense of communication and expression. You may find joy in sharing stories and connecting with others on a deeper level, as well as singing long and loud ballads in the shower. Like the humpback whale's migrations, you often crave exploration and new experiences, and you especially love to travel with your close friends and family.

Leopard Shark

If you have a strong sense of intuition, and you're naturally talented at just about anything that you try, you might resonate with the quick and agile Leopard Shark. If this is you, you likely have a keen sense of your surroundings and great hand-eye coordination skills, meaning that you enjoy many activities such as swimming, archery and tennis. You're a go-getter, and lead a very busy and active lifestyle. People will often struggle to put you in a box, because you can do just about anything you put your mind to. But sometimes, your late nights and tendency to overwork can leave you drained from your constant achievements. Luckily, your special power is your ability to take a nap just about anywhere you go!

Squid

Some would call you a night owl, others, the queen of the dance floor. If you love a good disco, and you're usually the host of the afterparty, you might feel aligned with the dazzling Glitter Squid. Despite your short attention span, people will often love the vibrant energy that you bring to the group. Like a squid, you love to show off your talents, which often involve dancing, acrobatics and performing magic tricks. You're also not afraid of your emotions, and when your mood does change (which it can, very quickly), you're ready to embrace whatever comes your way.

Seadragon

If you're smart, quirky, but you don’t like to stand out from the crowd, you might feel drawn to the rare and remarkable seadragons. If this is you, you might prefer colder climates, where you can rug up and sit in a cafe with a warm coffee. People are often drawn to you because of your beauty and your brains, but despite other's curiosities, you often don't like the attention. Often, your weekends include long walks in the park, writing letters to friends and spending time in nature. You're an early sleeper, and you would choose a good book over party any day.

Bullshark

If you're strong, independent and adaptable, you might relate to the powerful bullsharks. If so, when it comes to work, you will often find yourself put in a position of leadership. You're determination, and courage means that you aren’t afraid to snatch any opportunity that comes your way. You love to travel and experience new environments, but your favourite part of travelling is trying all the new foods! Like bullsharks, you can be a little feisty, but it's usually only when provoked. Although you like to portray a tough exterior, deep down you're a softie at heart.

Nudibranch

If you’re colourful, passionate, and you love to embrace every part of yourself, you might feel drawn to the wonderful slugs of the sea. If this is you, then you're definitely not for everyone. People might be thrown off by your loudness and your vibrancy at first, but you would never let that dull your sparkle. You tend to gravitate towards an artistic crowd who love and appreciate you for all of your weirdness, and every one of you is wackier than the next. On the weekends you enjoy lounging around indoors, costume parties with friends and an occasional day in the sun.

Jellyfish

If you float through life with ease, and are a real go-with-the-flow type of person, your spirit animal might be a whimsical jellyfish. With your greater perspective on life, you often don't worry about the trivial things, and you never let small annoyances bring you down. Because of this, amazing opportunities just seem to drift your way. You're generally not a very social person, and prefer to forge your own path than to fit in with the crowd. You may put up some defensive barriers, but there's something almost magical about you, and people are often drawn to your beauty and your glow.

Clownfish

If you're most comfortable at home and in a familiar environment, you might resonate with a well-known anemone fish. If this is you, you know what you like, and you are usually quite confident in your choices. You're a jokester, and you have a cheeky sense of humour, especially when it comes to making fun of your siblings and close friends. Often, it takes a while for you to warm up to someone new, but when you do, they're in your circle for life. Your family and friends are very important to you, and there's nothing you wouldn't do for them, even if it means crossing the entire ocean!

Sea Lion

If you have a child-like joy about you, and approach life with a youthfulness that is often refreshing, you might feel like you resonate with the playful sea lions. Like these social animals, you know how to have fun, and you can get along with just about anyone. Always the life of the party, your playfulness and positivity is contagious, making everybody want to be around you. You have a natural way with people, you're a great public speaker and a competitive athlete. You like to win, but even if you lose, you don't let the littles things bother you for long.

Frogfish

If you're calm, extremely patient, and eccentric, you might resonate with a distinctive frogfish. If this is you, you'll likely prefer to relax and lay low, living a peaceful and drama-free life. You often find beauty in the intricate details, and love all things crafty from painting to pottery and knitting all kinds of beanies. Like a little frogfish, you happen to appreciate the small things, and you love to maintain your tranquility, But by no means does this mean you are weak, because if somebody dares to cross you, you'll wait for your moment when it's time to strike! Ultimately, you're quite a rare kind to find, and certainly one to be treasured.

Blue-Ringed Octopus

Clever, smart, and cunning, if you love a good challenge, you might resonate with an intelligent octopus. If this is you, your friends will often come to you for advice, knowing that you'll have their backs no matter what. You love to help others through tough situations and solve any problems they may have. In fact, you are often referred to as the unofficial therapist of the group! But you also have a dark side, and while some may underestimate you, that would be a fatal mistake. You know how to mould situations to suit your desires, and often, your enemies won't even see you coming.
