I was fortunate to be part of Aqua Spirit Dive Expeditions first UW Fashion Photography Master Class. Can you imagine – what fun, what a great experience, what a magnificent opportunity, what a special niche!!! Ran and Danielle Mor (owners of Aqua Spirit) arranged for the infamous Zena Holloway to lead and inspire the 12 lucky international underwater photographers in the art of Underwater Fashion Photography. Five international models worked tirelessly, to help train us (they were an impressive group.) The participants were literally from across the globe, (Kazakhstan, Italy, India, New Zealand, USA, UK, Argentina, Bahamas, Cuba, Israel….) An amazing and diverse group.
I’m told that Ran and Danielle worked for over a year to put the class together. Skills of the photographers and the models varied widely. That, in and of itself, was part of the learning experience. How often does a novice underwater photographer have the opportunity to work with a seasoned underwater fashion model… I can guaranteed you – not often. We needed to learn how to work with the extremely experienced model (quite an opportunity), as well as the inexperienced model, and support team. There was a whole lot about model safety and support I didn’t realize. Can you imagine what a logistics nightmare it would have been to coordinate that group and get them all to Bimini, in the Bahamas, at the same time! Everyone learned – and I mean everyone – learned from each other.
Danielle is amazingly organized!!!!! She kept popping up everywhere to make sure this-or-that was taken care of, people were safe and happy. She dealt with personalities, needs and wishes of the entire diverse group. (As you can imagine – there were plenty of strong personalities and diverse needs from the international group.) She is a star and a diplomat! Part of the time she doubled as a model – and she did that just as well.
Ran is someone you definitely want leading your dive adventure. Calm, encouraging and able to fix or diagnose just about any gear issue or photography question we came up with (and there were plenty). He was like Santa with his bag of spare parts and cool toys for us all to try. He too is very organized. The team is top notch. Actually, quite impressive.
All and all it was a very special experience. I’m inspired. I’m also appreciative of the superior job Aqua Spirit Dive Expeditions did in the execution of the first Underwater Fashion Photography Master Class.
I got to meet so many awesome people through our passions. Regardless of people from 11 different countries with cultures, we all got along 🙂 Danielle and Ran have big hearts and super humble for what they do. I’m happy that I made a decision to go with them. I hope to see them in the near future!
Had an amazing time diving and learning from Ran last month in Cozumel! I have been a professional fine art photographer for over 10 years and was looking to get into UW photography. I have always preferred private or semi-private workshops over large classes, so I was excited when I found Aqua Spirits web site. Ran assisted in the UW housing purchasing decisions before meeting in Cozumel for the lessons. It was immediately apparent that Ran was extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of UW photography and that he enjoyed sharing this knowledge. I feel that I learned more from him in the 2 days of diving and lessons then I would have from other 5 day workshops.
I would highly recommend his workshops!
Sincerely, Alan Zakem.
WOW!!! Was I lucky! On March 11, 2016, I was in Cozumel, diving. Ran was in Belize, but was coming to Cozumel, so I met him for lessons on the bundle that I had bought from him, in Nov. I have had several underwater cameras and could figure out, nicely, how to use them. However, when I bought my Canon G16 and Fantasea light, I felt totally lost! I was in WAY over my head, as they were so much more sophisticated than my previous cameras. I spent the entire day with Ran, learning how to operate my new “toy”. Ran was an excellent teacher and overall really nice guy. I thought I might feel stupid, but he made everything so simple for me and encouraged me by saying I could do it. I NEVER would have been able to figure it all out, by myself. He was also very professional, patient and eager to answer all my questions. We had lots of fun, as well, so the lessons weren’t tedious. The plan was to also do a dive, together, so I could put my knowledge into action, however due to a horrible cold, I was not able to dive. I still think that I’m going to be able to use my new knowledge to take wonderful pictures. I also know that I can contact Ran, anytime, to get advice from him. He is truly a person who loves helping others. I would recommend, to anybody, not only buy great quality camera bundles, but to use Ran’s extensive knowledge of cameras and how to take underwater pictures. I could not be happier!!! Thank you, Ran!
